We conduct non-breeding surveys from September through May to try and understand the mystery of where the pigeon guillemots go in the off-season and when they start returning to their respective breeding sites. When combined with breeding survey data, we get a better sense of the local patterns. If we conduct these surveys long enough, it would allow us to detect changes over time.
