Science Adventure Camp is an exciting overnight camp experience for rising 8th–10th graders who are interested in exploring the outdoors and discovering the wonders of science. Through hands-on activities that make learning fun, campers will dive into environmental studies while exploring the Nisqually Watershed.
During the trip, participants will camp under the stars, take day hikes in Mount Rainier National Park, and engage in immersive science adventures that connect them with nature. This camp is the perfect mix of outdoor adventure, teamwork, and scientific exploration for curious minds ready to make unforgettable memories.
-Applications Closed-
Thank you for applying to Science Adventure Camp with Nisqually Reach Nature Center!
Science Adventure Camp is a five-day experience for students entering 8th–10th grade, designed to combine preparation, outdoor adventure, and hands-on science.
What does this look like?
We start with a prep and packing day at Nisqually Reach Nature Center to get everyone organized, check gear, and go over safety and trip plans. Then the real adventure begins: four days and three nights of camping at La Wis Wis Campground, hiking Packwood Lake, Tatoosh Ridge, and the Skyline Loop at Paradise. Along the way, students explore ecosystems, observe wildlife, and learn about geology, glaciers, and alpine environments, all while building teamwork, confidence, and outdoor skills.
We understand that this is an amazing opportunity and unfortunately not everyone who applies will get in. Grant funding has given us the chance to let 12 students attend free-of-cost! To make this a more equitable process we will be filling this camp via a lottery.
You may fill out this application anytime between March 1st and May 1st. One application per child. Timing of submission will have no effect on your chances in the lottery.
We will be reserving four spots for historically marginalized or under-represented groups, who self identify. These spots are pooled and drawn from first; those not selected are added to the main drawing to fill the remaining spots. We will continue to draw after filling the camp to compile a wait list in case of drops or plan changes.
Families will be notified on May 15th on the status of their application. If you receive a spot in the camp, there will be a mandatory virtual meeting with camp staff and the selected campers on May 27th. Failure to attend the required meeting may result in loss of placement.
