Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1974 for the protection of migratory birds.
Three thousand acres of salt and freshwater marshes, grasslands, riparian, and mixed forest habitats provide resting and nesting areas for migratory waterfowl, songbirds, raptors, and wading birds.

The Refuge is open daily from sunrise to sunset.
There is a $3 daily entrance fee which admits 4 adults. Kids under 16 years of age enter free.
NO DOGS (or other pets) are allowed on the Refuge.
Jogging and bicycling are also prohibited.
The Nisqually Delta has been designated as a National Natural Landmark because of its national significance as one of the best examples of this kind of coastal salt marsh system remaining in the North Pacific.
Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge is one of 552 National Wildlife Refuges in the United States.
